The purpose of an oiled surface is to preserve the wood’s natural characteristics. This allows the wood to keep breathing, as the pores are not sealed. This treatment enhances the furniture’s overall appearance and gives the wood a special tone that highlights its structure, making the piece appear even more exclusive and high-quality.
Care:
For oiled as well as waxed surfaces, please do not use a wet or damp cloth! Water pushes the oil out of the wood's pores, which can permanently damage the wood’s structure. Use a dry cloth to remove minor dirt or stains. To restore the furniture’s shine, first clean the surface of dust or dirt. Then, apply a suitable furniture oil sparingly (we recommend Renuwell Furniture Oil which is available on our website) and work it in along the grain.
Scratches / Stains:
For scratches or stubborn stains (such as dried water stains or heat marks), the use of fine-grit sandpaper is necessary. Sand the affected area broadly along the grain to avoid unevenness. After removing all sanding residue, treat the surface with furniture oil. Tip: For small scratches, simple household tricks like rubbing the area with a peeled walnut or peanut can be sufficient. You can also find touch-up pens in hardware stores for the same purpose.
Dents:
If your solid wood furniture has dents, here’s a tip: Place a warm, damp cloth on the affected area and iron over it with steam and pressure to raise the wood. Be cautious not to let the iron touch the wood directly to avoid burn marks. Once dried, treat the area with furniture oil.
